Tata Motors has released the first image for its micro-SUV, which will launch in India soon. This confirms that the model will be called 'Tata Punch' upon launch. Internally known as the Tata Hornbill, this new micro-SUV was previewed as the HBX concept at the Auto Expo 2020, and also as the H2X concept at the Geneva motor show in 2019.The Tata Punch will be the second product underpinned by Tata Motors' ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform that also underpins the Altroz hatchback. Based on the company's Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, the Tata HBX will get split head-lamp set up like the Harrier (H5), glossy black grille with the typical Humanity line, a faux skid plate on the front bumper, flared wheel arches, and stylish 16-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the HBX might come equipped with features such as rectangular AC vents, floating touchscreen for the infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, and steering-mounted telephony controls among other things. Under the bonnet, the Tata Punch is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Revotron family that produces a maximum power output of 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. It will likely be paired with a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a five-speed AMT could be sold as an option.“With the perfect combination of stunning design, technology, and driving dynamics, the Punch will come equipped with superlative features and an architecture that has proven its versatility in all forms," said Shailesh Chandra - President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors. “True to the SUV genes of all Tata Motors’ products and catering to needs of customers who are looking for a compact city car with pure SUV characteristics, Punch will be the fourth addition to our SUV family, widening the range of options for all to choose from."The five-seater Tata Punch mini SUV will compete with the Suzuki Ignis and S-Presso, Hyundai's upcoming Casper micro SUV, and Mahindra KUV100 NXT, and will be positioned just below the Tata Nexon.
